In January we take an extra look at the right to life. This is because of the anniversary of the Supreme Court Roe vs. Wade decision that legalized abortion in our country.
The March for Life is held this month in Washington DC but also in other locations including Chicago. Hundreds of thousands of people make a pilgrimage to stand up for life.
But the Catholic view is comprehensive when it comes to defending the dignity of life from conception until natural death. There is a whole lot of life in between conception and death.
That’s why we also support people with intellectual disabilities (like Special Olympics). We also are opposed to the death penalty, eugenics, and “unjust” war. Medical experimentation that crosses the line in regards to human dignity.
To take this a little farther and wider, life for each one of us is a gift. Each day is a gift. When you wake up, be grateful for the gift of your life and strive to love God and neighbor each day.
Life is a gift and it is meant to be given away.
